Who are you reaching?

Ever wonder who is reading your blog? And how they're finding you? Blogger has some statistical information available, so let's take a look!

If you're like me, when it's time to post something, you sign on and go immediately to your New Post screen. You might see this info, but it's more annoying than anything else, so you breeze past it on your way to the really important stuff: What You Have To Say.

But let's take a closer look at this screen:

This is on your overview page, and actually has some interesting info.
It shows how many page views you've had in the past few days, if you have any outstanding comments, the number of posts and subscribers you have. This is good at-a-glance info, but you can also get a little more in-depth info.

Click Stats on your sidebar.

This is your overview page, and as you can see has a LOT of general information. You can get more in-depth info on page traffic, traffic sources and your audience.

Click Posts.

Now you can see statistics for each of your posts.  It defaults to the last 7 days, but if you look at the tool bar in the upper right of your screen, you'll see you can get daily, weekly, monthly or all-time stats.

Now click Traffic Sources.

This is some very interesting info. It shows referring URLs (specific pages that linked to you) as well as referring sites. When you first start out, most of your referral sites will be from places like Networked Blogs, Facebook, etc. But occasionally something crazy will pop up, like the next to last one on mine: getdentalimplants {dot} com -- WHAT the???

Let's look at the last screen. Click Audience.

Here's more fun info. Not only can you see hits from different countries, but you can also see some nerdy info like which browser they used (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc) and what operating system they use.

Now that you know what this stuff means, have fun checking out your OWN blogs! And please come back and share your most interesting find!
Susan

  1. Hey, Susan, I am going to try and attend the Allume conference in October. Is that something you might attend?
